Not hanging it up . . . for now

This was a long and mostly unplanned blogging hiatus. Since the end of November, I've been able to travel and uncork great wines with both the legendary BrooklynGuy and the consummate taster Joe of Joe's Wine.

On both occasions, I got to meet their families and felt tremendously welcome. And while I had met BrooklynGuy and Joe before, meeting up with them in their element and spending more time with them was a little bit like getting to know your favourite Pinot. These guys have truly great blogs, but I still gotta say that virtual wine appreciation isn't as nearly good as the real thing -- especially with great guys like these two. You learn a lot.

And for me this just makes blogging seem less important in comparison, less vital. At the moment, journaling about wine feels almost like an afterthought -- or like talking to an answering machine when you know someone will eventually pick up if you call again.

That said, I still have a bunch of stuff I want to enter for my own record-keeping and whatnot, so the wineblog is resilient in that regard. Doktor Weingolb's decanters aren't being hung up for good so I'm turning them around. Wine to come...

Yes, but, how did you meet these guys, was it not through blogging? I live out here in California and would never have met either of them, if not for blogging! Travel is great, it is the quickest way to learn, in my experience! It sounds like you have had a wonderful time. I am also glad you will not stop blogging. Keep on writing!

Welcome back, I always miss you around these blogging parts :) So much fun that you get to go taste with Neil and Joe. I hope to meet more wine bloggers at some point, I've had the pleasure of meeting 2 so far!

Hey Marcus, Mark is right - never would have met you if it weren't for the blog. A learning experience for me as well. Keep it coming! Next time you are going to help me clear out some reds...

Don't you go quittin' on us now, Marcus. You'd be missed way too much.

Thank you all.

After writing this entry, I really did have new material and I really wanted to post stuff, but it's very strange. I've fallen out of the habit and when that happens it's harder to dive back in. Something to do with momentum I suppose? Will settle down and mind the shop better very soon I hope.

hi Marcus,

I check everyday and still, no new weingolb. sniff.

it was great to see you again, and I'm glad you met my wife and daughter.

i know what you mean about stopping or taking a long break - I told you I was thinking about doing just that. but i decided instead to be more honest in the blog in 08, to be more critical, and to be more focused in my point of view.

i think you have lots to offer as a blogger, and some of it you haven't excavated yet. i hope you don't stop.
